When two well-known figures in recreational boating got together to form their own company, they turned to C. Raymond Hunt Associates for their desgn work. Frank Longino spent a career at Grady-White before joining the turnaround team at Chris Craft; Alton Herndon spent 27 years at Hatteras, the last 11 as President. Together, they established Southport Boatworks, whose boats were designed from the keel up to take advantage of the coming trend in offshore outboard power, the new heavyweight four-stroke outboards.
The Hunt deep-V, with its fine entry forward, stable width aft, and easy-running shape, allows these Southport center console fishing machines to plane at a wider range of speeds, to get out to offshore spots fast and then troll with stability, and to harness the advantages of the new outboards. |
